I loved watching this show with my Daughter Honey. We’d watched the Andy Griffith show but loved this spin off more. We watched all the Leave it to Beaver episodes too. There should be a TV channel showing all these family shows.

My grandfather was friends with him, they were in church choir together. He was a wonderful singer.

He was “one of the few ever to be named an Honorary Marine” per the USMC statement at the time of his death.

I was reading that Carol Burnett always had Jim Nabors as her guest the opening of every season. She felt he was good luck. I loved her guest appearances on Gomer Pyle

So I had to look this up bec the only context I’ve ever heard the name Pyle was in Full Metal Jacket. And now a big lightbulb is shining over my head.

For production they got unlimited access to military equipment because the Marines thought the show would be good for their image.

I love the differences between his on screen roles and his personal life. The man had an incredible singing voice and was gay. Too bad he lived in an era when he couldn’t be accepted for who he was.
