This is Pat Tillman in the 1990s. He willingly gave up a multimillion dollar contract with the NFLs Arizona Cardinals to join the military, before being killed in Afghanistan. HERO.

He. Eleven in his country and then was killed by friendly fire which they had covered up and then pay the nfl to bring up how heroic he was for throwing his life away every single year. He’s become entirely a propoganda piece and it’s a disservice to his memory.

So many people in these comments have no idea who Pat was. They see American fighting in Afghanistan and assume they know who he was. Pat wrote a letter to his brother while he was there basically saying “What are we doing here? Our missions make no sense. This is stupid and nothing is getting better.” Calling him an idiot or a terrorist is just ignorant. Read a book or watch a documentary.

Poor guy got brainwashed, murdered, and then heavily exploited in his death.

Fuck off with these mindless military industrial complex posts. His story is a cautionary tale of why its all complete garbage and you should stay far, far away. Let the politicians send their kids and grand kids to their grave.

Just an all-around tragedy. Misguided patriotism, followed by being killed by friendly fire and a cover up. What a waste.

In all honesty the only one who knew why he made such a terrible descision was him. Anyone who assumes his motives or labels him like this post is silly.

The US military is a pointless and monsters is organization. Do not expect to be doing anything remotely helpful for others when you join. Pat Tillman’s story is sad and hopefully people stop joining the military for anything other than being forced to to get an education.

I’m sure people will be mad about this. But what a fucking idiot. He gave up being a millionaire superstar playing his passion for a living. To die poor and fighting someone else’s war. I totally get patriotism and respecting the military but those are poor life choices and brainwashing at best

Pretty stupid move, that’s on him. Could’ve made a fortune playin a sports game, instead of being a pawn in a big political game.

Sounds pretty dumb to me, give up playing a game for millions of dollars to go shoot some civilians in a country on the other side of the world and then get murdered by your own soldiers when you start questioning the military’s intent there.

Only part of his story that makes him a hero is the fact he died questioning the military instead of blindly following like the rest of the “patriotic” sheep.
